Chattogram, Sep 22 (V7N)- Students of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) staged a protest on Monday night against the replacement of Vice-Chancellor Professor Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem.
The protesting students held a procession on the campus demanding that Sayem remain in office. The procession began at Swadhinata Chattar and passed through various areas of the university.
Following the procession, the students locked the Vice-Chancellor's office as part of their protest.
The demonstration came after the Ministry of Education issued a notification appointing Professor Dr. Sheikh Sharifful Alam as the new Vice-Chancellor of CUET.
Sheikh Sharifful Alam is a professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET).
Professor Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem was appointed Vice-Chancellor of CUET on July 27. Students objected to his replacement less than two months after he assumed the position.
The protesters demanded that the government reconsider the decision and allow Sayem to continue as Vice-Chancellor.
No details were immediately available on whether the Ministry of Education would review the appointment or respond to the students' demands.
