Rajshahi, Dec 17 (V7N) — Education Advisor Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar has said that the true purpose of education is not merely personal advancement but dedication to the welfare of society and the state.
He made the remarks while addressing the 12th convocation ceremony of Rajshahi University (RU) on Wednesday.
“The pursuit of knowledge should not be limited to self-development alone. Education creates responsibility,” the advisor said. He emphasized the importance of speaking out against corruption, standing firmly for truth, justice, and fairness, and taking inspiration from what he described as the courage shown by the July warriors.
Dr. Abrar also highlighted the need to work for small ethnic and marginalized communities, stating that inclusive development must remain a national priority.
Referring to Rajshahi University, he said the institution is not just an academic center, but a place of moral and ethical initiation. He cited Shamsuzzoha and Badr Uddin Omar as shining examples of the university’s legacy of values and principled leadership.
At the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib urged graduating students to use their academic achievements for the greater welfare of the country.
After a gap of nearly six years, the convocation was held for students of the 60th, 61st, and 62nd batches from various faculties. A total of 5,969 students participated in the event, turning the campus into a festive venue. Students, parents, and teachers gathered at the convocation grounds from early morning to celebrate the occasion.
