Kushtia, Dec 09 (V7N) – An international seminar titled “Advanced Methods for Extraction, Isolation, and Processing of Food, Nutraceutical and Natural Medicinal Plants” was held at Islamic University in Kushtia on Monday. The event, organized by the Department of Applied Nutrition and Food Technology, took place at 11 a.m. in the seminar room of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology.

The programme was conducted by Professor Dr Md Abdus Samad, while the session was presided over by the department chairman, Professor Dr Md Hafizur Rahman. The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr Zaidul S Islam Sarkar of Northern Marianas College, a higher education institution under the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands in the United States.

In his keynote presentation, Professor Sarkar discussed cutting-edge research advancements in food science, food technology and nutrition science. He also emphasized opportunities for international academic collaboration, pathways to securing global research grants, and participation in overseas fellowship and research exchange programmes.

Professor Zaidul Sarkar is widely recognized for his work in food science and nutraceuticals and currently serves as a professor in the Food Science Programme at Northern Marianas College. He previously held the position of Professor of Nutraceutical Technology at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and served as an Associate Professor of Food Science at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM). He has also undertaken postdoctoral research, visiting professorships and collaborative projects in Japan, Saudi Arabia and multiple other countries.

The seminar highlighted the growing importance of advanced extraction and processing methods in the global food and nutraceutical sectors and aimed to strengthen international academic cooperation in related fields.
