Rajshahi, Nov 02 (V7N) – The pass rate in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination under the Rajshahi Education Board has dropped to 45.06 per cent, the lowest since the 2020 automatic pass system. The rate fell by 14.34 percentage points from 59.40 per cent last year.
Controller of Examinations Professor Iffat Jarin officially announced the results at the board office at 11am on Saturday.
The number of students achieving a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5 also declined significantly. A total of 4,520 students secured GPA-5 this year, compared with 10,137 in 2025.
According to the board, 141,936 students registered for this year's examination, of whom 137,356 appeared. A total of 61,894 students passed.
Last year, 130,887 students appeared for the examination, with 77,742 passing.
Of the 4,520 GPA-5 achievers this year, 1,965 were boys and 2,555 were girls.
Girls Outperform Boys
Students from 743 colleges across eight districts of the Rajshahi division took the examination at 208 centres.
Girls performed better than boys in the overall results. The pass rate among female students was 53.03 per cent, compared with 37.71 per cent among male students. Girls also outnumbered boys among GPA-5 achievers.
Professor Iffat Jarin said 31 candidates had been expelled during the examinations for adopting unfair means.
She added that all candidates from only nine colleges achieved a 100 per cent pass rate, while no student passed from 39 colleges.
39 Colleges Record Zero Passes
The results show a wide disparity in performance among the 743 colleges under the board. While all students passed from nine institutions, 39 colleges failed to produce a single successful candidate.
A review of the board's results over recent years shows that the pass rate was 100 per cent in 2020 under the automatic pass system. It stood at 97.29 per cent in 2021, 81.60 per cent in 2022, 78.46 per cent in 2023 and 81.24 per cent in 2024. The rate then fell to 59.40 per cent in 2025 before dropping further to 45.06 per cent this year.
Explaining the results, Controller of Examinations Professor Iffat Jarin said students had received marks based on what they had written in their answer scripts, without any additional marks being awarded. This, she said, had affected the overall pass rate.
Rajshahi College Achieves 99.55% Pass Rate
In contrast to the overall board results, Rajshahi College recorded a pass rate of 99.55 per cent.
Of the 441 students who appeared from the college, 439 passed and 350 secured GPA-5. Two students failed.
Among the GPA-5 achievers, 241 were from the science group, 65 from the humanities group and 44 from the business studies group.
The results were announced in the presence of College Principal Professor Dr Ibrahim Ali, Vice-Principal Professor Abu Yunus Ali, Examination Committee Convener Professor Iqbal Hossain, teachers, examinees and guardians.
The announcement was met with celebrations among students, teachers and guardians.
Principal Professor Dr Md Ibrahim Ali expressed satisfaction with the results and congratulated all successful students, particularly those who achieved GPA-5.
He attributed the college's performance to students' dedication and perseverance, teachers' commitment and the support of guardians. He urged students to continue striving for better results in higher education and to develop knowledge, ethics and human values so they could contribute to society and the country.
He also encouraged students who did not achieve their expected results not to lose heart and to move forward with renewed determination.
