Dhaka, Sept 9 (V7N) – Independent Vice President (VP) candidate Shamim Hossain cast his vote at the Senate Bhaban in the ongoing Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) and Hall Parliament elections on Tuesday morning.
Speaking to reporters after voting, Shamim alleged that attempts had been made to influence the polls through cyberattacks and propaganda, but expressed confidence in the judgment of Dhaka University students. “I believe the students are prudent and will make the right decision,” he said.
He also praised the atmosphere on campus, noting that the environment remained peaceful. “There is no fear about the election environment so far. The environment is beautiful. I expect a fair election,” he added.
Voting began at 8 am and will continue until 4 pm, with students who are in line by the deadline permitted to vote afterward.
Security has been tightened across the university campus, with law enforcement agencies setting up checkposts at all entry points. Police, accompanied by members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), have been deployed to ensure smooth movement of voters. A police control room has also been set up in the TSC area to monitor the situation.
This year, 471 candidates are contesting for 28 DUCSU posts. Among them, 62 are women, including 5 candidates for VP, 1 for GS, and 4 for AGS. A total of 39,775 students are eligible to vote, comprising 20,873 male and 18,902 female voters.
