Dhaka, Sep 1 (V7N) – Alongside the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) elections, the 18 hall parliament elections of Dhaka University will also be held on September 9. A total of 1,035 candidates are contesting across the halls, with the Chhatra Dal being the only student organization to announce full panels in all halls.
The top demand from hall voters this year is the improvement of food quality in dormitories. Candidates are prioritizing this issue in their campaigns, making promises to ensure meals that are nutritious, affordable, and better in taste.
Currently, DU halls provide meals three times a day at subsidized rates. However, complaints from students over poor quality and lack of nutritional value in the food have persisted for years.
During campaigning, candidates vying for positions such as VP, GS, and AGS are actively visiting students' rooms, presenting their manifestos, and urging support. Across campuses, the electioneering has taken on a friendly tone, with smiles, handshakes, and repeated reminders of ballot numbers.
Among the halls, Rokeya Hall has the largest number of registered voters, making it a critical battleground. Amar Ekushey Hall has the highest number of candidates (76) competing for 13 posts, followed by Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall and Surya Sen Hall with 75 candidates each. Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall has the lowest number, with 38 candidates.
Notably, while Chhatra Dal has declared full panels, reports suggest that Islami Chhatra Shibir and Bagchas have formed shadow panels for the hall elections.
