RAJSHAHI, April 17, (V7N) — The historic 127‑year‑old Mirerchak Jame Mosque in Rajshahi city has begun construction of a new six‑storey building, replacing the old structure to accommodate growing numbers of worshippers.
Inaugural ceremony
The foundation‑laying ceremony was held Friday morning, organized by the Mirerchak Jame Mosque Committee. Chief guest Land Minister Md. Mizanur Rahman, MP, formally inaugurated the project. Special guests included Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator and BNP General Secretary Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton, and Rajshahi District Council Administrator Bir Muktijoddha Advocate Ershad Ali Isha.
Speakers assured full cooperation in completing the new mosque building. The event concluded with prayers and supplications for the success of the project. Once completed, the six‑storey mosque will provide expanded facilities for prayer and religious activities.
The ceremony was attended by Rajshahi Metropolitan BNP President Mamunur Rashid, mosque committee leaders including President Alhaj Md. Rafiqul Alam Chowdhury, Vice President Zillur Rahman, and General Secretary Alhaj Md. Moklesur Rahman Bokul, along with local BNP leaders, ward representatives, and community members.
The new mosque building is expected to enhance religious infrastructure in Rajshahi, preserving the legacy of one of the city’s oldest mosques while meeting the needs of modern congregations.
