CHATTOGRAM, Mar 27 (V7N) – A mobile court conducted a targeted drive near Shah Amanat International Airport today, recovering a significant stockpile of illegally stored fuel. The operation, which began at 10:30 am and lasted for three hours, resulted in the seizure of 30 drums of diesel, totaling approximately 6 tons, from an unauthorized warehouse in the adjacent area.

Operation Details

The drive was led by executive magistrates as part of a nationwide crackdown on fuel hoarding and the black market, intensified by current regional supply concerns. In addition to the fuel, authorities seized three high-capacity pumps used for the illicit loading and unloading of diesel. The total value of the recovered fuel and equipment is estimated at Tk 8 lakh.

Legal Action and Context

Officials confirmed that the seized goods have been taken into custody under the Essential Commodities Act. The process of filing a formal case against the individuals involved is currently underway.

This raid follows a recent directive from the Cabinet Division, instructing Deputy Commissioners across the country to deploy mobile courts to prevent "artificial shortages" in the energy market. Similar drives have been reported this week in Jashore, Sylhet, and Gazipur, as the government moves to stabilize fuel distribution amidst the ongoing Middle East conflict, which has disrupted roughly 85,500 tonnes of planned fuel imports for March.
