RANGAMATI, Feb 10, (V7N)— A court in Rangamati has ordered a two-day remand for Didar Alam, an inspector of the Family Planning Department at Rangamati Sadar Upazila, in connection with allegations of rape, pornography and blackmail.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Shimu Sarkar passed the order on Tuesday following a remand hearing, court sources said.
The matter was confirmed by Rangamati District Public Prosecutor Advocate Pratim Roy Pumpu and Advocate Harun Or Rashid, who appeared in court on behalf of the victim alongside the state.
According to police, the victim filed a case with Rangamati Kotwali Police Station on January 27, accusing Didar Alam of repeatedly raping her against her will, recording the acts and later threatening her. The case was registered as Case No. 14.
Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Shampa Hazari said that after preliminary verification of the complaint, police filed the case under Section 9(1) of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000, and Sections 8(1), 8(2) and 8(3) of the Pornography Control Act, 2012. The accused was later arrested in a raid.
Police sought a five-day remand for further interrogation, but the court granted a two-day remand.
Following the arrest, several women, including colleagues of the accused, have separately alleged that Didar Alam had behaved inappropriately with them in the past. Some claimed they had previously raised complaints with higher authorities, but no action had been taken at the time. These allegations are part of ongoing inquiries and have not yet been adjudicated by the court.
Meanwhile, the victim has submitted a written application to the authorities seeking security at her workplace, alleging that she has been receiving threats even after the arrest of the accused.
Rangamati District Family Planning Officer Sohagmoy Chakma said the department has been formally informed of the case by the police and that official action against Didar Alam has already been initiated.
The case is currently under investigation, and authorities said further legal steps would be taken based on the outcome of the probe.
