Feb 04 (V7N) - Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, spokesperson of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has said the party is committed to building a Bangladesh founded on justice and good governance, adding that achieving this goal requires collective responsibility.
He made the remarks on Tuesday (February 3) while addressing an election march in Singra, Natore, as the chief guest. The march was organized in support of Jorjis Qadir, the 11-party alliance candidate for the Natore-3 constituency.
Speaking at the event, Asif Mahmud alleged that as the election approaches, the administration is reverting to what he described as its “old practices.” He claimed that complaints submitted to the Election Commission by the 11-party alliance have gone unaddressed, while swift action was taken in favor of a BNP candidate in a separate incident.
According to him, after a BNP candidate was served with a show-cause notice, the concerned election official was withdrawn on the same day. He further alleged that due to bias on the part of the Election Commission and the administration, even government officials are openly seeking votes for the “Sheaf of Paddy,” the electoral symbol of the BNP.
Asif Mahmud warned against attempts to return to power through what he described as staged elections by using the administration. Referring to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, he alleged that she came to power through three “silent and engineered” elections, adding that such a process would no longer be possible in what he termed post–August 5 Bangladesh.
He said that if necessary, people would be prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure their voting rights.
Among those present at the rally were Jorjis Qadir, the 11-party alliance candidate for Natore-3; Monira Sharmin, joint convener of the NCP central committee and secretary of its election management committee; Hafizur Rahman Moyna, senior joint member secretary of the district committee; joint convener Tahash Noor; along with leaders and activists of the 11-party alliance at various levels.
