Netrokona, Jan 19 (V7N) — Allegations of serious irregularities have emerged over road construction and earth-filling work under a government-funded project in Asma Union of Barhatta upazila in Netrokona district.
A field investigation found that under the Rural Infrastructure Maintenance (Kabita) project of the Department of Disaster Management, under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, a total allocation of Tk 4 lakh was approved in the general sector for the 2025–26 fiscal year. The project included earth-filling and HBB work on the connecting road from Ujan Gaon Noapara Road to Ujan Gaon Government Primary School, as well as earth-filling within the school premises.
However, locals allege that the work was not carried out properly, despite attempts being made to withdraw the full project funds. Residents said there were major irregularities in the earth-filling and HBB work on the road, and claimed that no earth-filling work was done at the school at all.
The project chairman, Nazmul Huda Moyna, a Union Parishad member from Ward No. 3 of Asma Union, was accused of negligence and misuse of allocated funds. Locals alleged that substandard materials were used and that the work fell far short of the specifications mentioned in the project documents.
When contacted, Nazmul Huda Moyna admitted that the school’s earth-filling work, though included in the project, was not completed. He said the road work was carried out as much as possible within limitations. Responding to questions about the use of low-grade bricks in the HBB work, he stated that the work was done to the extent he was able to manage.
Regarding the allegations, Barhatta Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mosammat Jiniya Jaman said on Sunday evening, January 18, that she would look into the matter and take appropriate action after reviewing the project details.
Meanwhile, residents of the area have demanded a proper investigation and accountability to ensure transparency in the implementation of public development projects.
