Teknaf, Jan 12 (V7N) — The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 53 Rohingyas for illegally infiltrating into Bangladesh from Myanmar through the Whykong border area in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

According to BGB officials, the detention took place on Sunday morning (January 11) when a group attempted to cross the border amid ongoing armed conflict inside Myanmar’s Rakhine State. The Rohingyas reportedly entered Bangladesh in an effort to save their lives as clashes continue between the Arakan Army and other armed groups.

BGB sources said that among those detained were 53 Rohingya individuals believed to be associated with an armed group, along with one Bangladeshi national. Following their arrest, all detainees were handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for further legal procedures.

Authorities stated that legal action will be taken after completing verification of the detainees’ identities, nationalities, and possible affiliations. Security along the Teknaf border has been strengthened to prevent further illegal crossings amid the deteriorating security situation across the Myanmar border.
