Dhaka, Oct 18 (V7N) — Garment workers in Ashulia have continued their protest for the fourth consecutive day following the death of a pregnant worker. The demonstration began on Saturday morning in front of Gilden Active Wear in Palashbari, demanding justice and improved worker welfare.

Protesters alleged that Tajmina Khatun, who was several months pregnant, had sought leave and financial assistance from her employer, but the factory authorities refused her request. When co-workers attempted to collect money for her treatment, they were allegedly prevented by the management.

Tajmina died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital last Monday. She had been employed at SDS International Factory in Nayarhat.

The workers have issued an 11-point demand, including a fair investigation and justice for Tajmina’s death, improved maternity benefits, and an end to workplace harassment. They warned that a more intense movement would follow if their demands are not met.

Meanwhile, the factory authorities have declared the factory closed due to the ongoing strike and unrest. Law enforcement personnel have been deployed to maintain order in the area.
