Chapainawabganj, July 25 (V7N) – Two Bangladeshi nationals were reportedly shot by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Shinnagar border in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district early Thursday morning. While relatives of the injured blame the BSF for the incident, Indian border forces have denied any involvement.

The shooting occurred around 4:00 a.m. on Thursday (July 24) near pillar 1S of 164/5 at the Sinnagar BOP border, according to local sources.

The injured are identified as:

  • Selim (25), son of Ariful Islam Hanif, from Panditpara, Munshipara, Sahapara, Manaksha Union.

  • Suman (28), son of Sultan, from Tarapur, Munnapara.

Locals reported that a group of about 10 individuals had illegally crossed into India when BSF members from the Daulatpur camp under the 71st Battalion allegedly opened fire. After being shot, the two injured men were hidden by their companions before being taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in the afternoon.

However, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has so far officially confirmed only one injury. Lieutenant Colonel Fahad Mahmud Rinku, Commander of BGB Battalion-53, stated via message around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday that only Selim was confirmed shot.

He also noted that upon contacting the BSF Daulatpur camp, the Indian forces denied any involvement in the shooting.

This incident adds to the ongoing tensions and concerns surrounding border violence and unauthorized crossings between Bangladesh and India.
