Tangail, May 17 (V7N) -  A meat seller in Tangail has been fined Tk 50,000 for slaughtering a cow that was carrying a fetus. The fine was imposed administratively by Asaduzzaman Romel, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Tangail, at Battala Bazar in the district headquarters on Friday morning.

Local sources reported that Md. Subel Mia, operating Sohel Meat Shop in Battala on District Sadar Road, had been in business for a long time.

On Friday, a municipal slaughterhouse inspector at Battala Bazar identified a pregnant cow while sealing the slaughterhouse. The incident was reported to the veterinary doctor of the Sadar Upazila Livestock Department. Upon examination, the veterinarian confirmed that the cow was approximately two months pregnant.

Dr. Md. Shahin Alam, Veterinary Surgeon of Tangail Sadar Upazila Livestock Department, stated, "I visited Sohel Meat House in Battala Bazar after receiving information about the slaughter of a pregnant cow. Upon examining the cow, it was found to be carrying a calf of about two months old."

Asaduzzaman Rumel, Assistant Director of the National Consumer Rights Protection Department, Tangail, explained that upon receiving the news on Friday morning, they immediately went to Battala market to investigate. The meat seller, Subel, was questioned and eventually confessed to the offense. Consequently, he was fined Tk 50,000 under administrative proceedings. Additionally, approximately 70 kg of the seized meat was buried in the ground in the presence of local residents.

Also present during the proceedings were Sadar Upazila Sanitary Inspector Shahida Akhtar, Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) District Branch General Secretary Abu Zubair Ujjal, and ASI Milon.
