Sylhet, May 14 (V7N) - Dengue fever cases have shown a sudden increase in Sylhet, with 4 new cases reported in the division within the last 24 hours. Currently, 6 dengue patients are receiving treatment in various government and private hospitals. However, according to relevant sources, all patients are in stable condition.
Sources from the Sylhet Divisional Office of the Directorate General of Health indicate that a total of 16 dengue patients have been identified in the Sylhet division this year so far. Among these, 5 are from Sylhet district, 3 from Moulvibazar, 5 from Habiganj, and 1 from Sunamganj. Notably, there have been no reported deaths due to dengue in Sylhet this season.
While 9 individuals contracted dengue in the Sylhet division in the first four months of this year, 7 people have been infected in just the first 13 days of May.
Among the 6 individuals currently under treatment, 4 are at Habiganj Lakhai Upazila Health Complex, 1 is at Jalalabad Ragib Rabeya Medical College Hospital, and 1 is at North East Medical College Hospital.
In response to the situation, the Director of the Sylhet Divisional Health Department, Dr. Anisur Rahman, informed that dengue patients from districts other than Habiganj do not have a travel history, suggesting local transmission. He noted that Habiganj district, with its industrial presence and close connection to Dhaka, might be at a higher risk of local infection.
Dr. Rahman stated that while 4 new cases in 24 hours are not a cause for major concern, increased public awareness and vigilance are crucial. He added that urgent instructions will be issued to the Sylhet Health Department soon.
