Dhaka, Jul 20 (V7N)- The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that rainfall may continue across the country for the next five days as the monsoon remains active in the northern region.

According to the latest forecast issued by Meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Farooq on Monday (July 20), moderate to heavy and very heavy rainfall may occur in different parts of the country during this period.

The weather office said the axis of the monsoon trough extends from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal through northern parts of Bangladesh to Assam. Another extension of the monsoon trough reaches the northwest Bay of Bengal.

The BMD said the monsoon is currently active over the northern part of Bangladesh, fairly active in other regions and moderate over the north Bay of Bengal.

Monday (July 20):
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely in most places of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, and in many areas of Khulna division. Moderate to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places across the country.

Tuesday (July 21):
Rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds are likely in most areas of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions and many areas of Khulna division. Moderate to heavy rainfall may occur in some regions.

Wednesday (July 22):
Most areas of Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions may experience rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds. Many areas of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions may also receive rainfall. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in some areas.

Thursday (July 23):
Rain or thunderstorms with gusty winds are expected in most areas of Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions and many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Isolated places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions may experience moderate to heavy rainfall.

Friday (July 24):
Light to moderate rain or thunderstorms accompanied by temporary gusty winds may occur in most areas of Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions and many areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. Moderate to heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions.

The Meteorological Department advised people to remain cautious as heavy rainfall may create temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas.
