Dhaka, Oct 01 (V7N) – A distinct low pressure area has formed over the west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, raising concerns of rough weather in Bangladesh’s coastal belt.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) issued a warning on Wednesday (Oct 1), saying that gale force winds may sweep across the north Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal regions. As a result, the seaports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.

The BMD added that the sea is currently very rough under the influence of the low pressure system. All fishing boats and trawlers operating in the north Bay have been instructed to remain close to the shore and proceed with caution until further notice.

Meteorologists also warned that the system may intensify into a deep depression in the coming days. Authorities have urged all concerned to monitor regular updates and take necessary safety measures.
