Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) – Dhaka South City Corporation (DSSC) has launched a drive to remove unauthorized billboards, banners and posters across the capital. The operation began in the Science Lab area on Monday morning.
City corporation officials said all types of banners, posters and billboards installed without prior permission or approval will be removed within the next week.
They warned that under the City Corporation Act, installing or hanging banners, billboards or festoons in unauthorized places without approval is a punishable offense, carrying a jail term of up to 15 days. Officials added that the ongoing drive is also being conducted in line with instructions from the Election Commission.
Earlier, on November 2, DSSC issued a public notice directing the removal of banners, festoons and signboards installed on city walls and other locations.
The notice stated that banners, festoons, posters, advertisements, signboards and election campaign leaflets had been put up at various places within the DSSC area without permission, including on privately owned establishments. Such activities, the notice said, violate the Wall Writing and Poster (Control) Act, 2012.
To ensure a clean and beautiful city, DSSC requested all concerned organizations, individuals and institutions to voluntarily remove unauthorized banners, festoons, posters, advertisements, signboards and election leaflets from the city area. The authority warned that failure to comply would result in legal action against those responsible.
