Dhaka, May 16 (V7N) – In preparation for Eid-ul-Adha, a total of 19 temporary sacrificial animal markets are being set up across Dhaka under the jurisdiction of the two city corporations, with maximum security measures being put in place to ensure smooth, safe, and transparent operations.
According to officials, 10 cattle markets will be set up under the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and 9 under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC). These markets will operate at designated locations for five days, including the day of Eid, and will be strictly regulated to prevent the establishment of unauthorized markets.
To ensure financial security and hassle-free transactions for both buyers and sellers, banks will set up booths at each market under the supervision of Bangladesh Bank. These booths will offer banking services, and fake currency detection machines will also be installed at all markets to prevent fraud.
City corporation authorities have invited open tenders for leasing the markets, with the highest bidders being awarded the leases. However, if a market fails to attract a satisfactory bid in the first round, it will be re-tendered. Officials from the property departments of both city corporations have confirmed that no markets outside the designated areas will be permitted.
DNCC Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said the first phase of tender sales ended on May 15, and evaluation is currently underway. The second phase of tender sales will end on May 26, but if acceptable bids are received in the first round, there will be no need for a second phase.
Regarding security, Ejaz stated that the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), army, and intelligence agencies will be deployed across the markets. “Our goal is to ensure full-proof security and smooth operation of the markets, including monitoring of financial transactions to prevent theft, extortion, or fraud,” he said.
The move aims to accommodate the high volume of livestock trading ahead of the Eid festival while maintaining public safety, hygiene, and financial integrity.
