Dalian, Jun 24 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Kazakhstan Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Summer Davos Forum in China, where the two leaders agreed to deepen cooperation and strengthen diplomatic relations between their countries.
The courtesy meeting took place at 10:15 a.m. local time on Wednesday in Dalian during the 17th Annual Meeting of the New Champions, commonly known as the Summer Davos Forum.
During the discussion, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation across a range of sectors. Both leaders agreed to establish permanent diplomatic missions in Dhaka and Astana as a significant step toward strengthening ties between Bangladesh and Kazakhstan.
The two prime ministers also agreed on the need for regular engagements to increase political dialogue, business cooperation and people-to-people contacts.
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov expressed optimism about the growing potential for trade and investment between the two countries and highlighted opportunities for broader economic cooperation.
The meeting focused on several areas of mutual interest, including the recruitment of skilled Bangladeshi workers in Kazakhstan, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, information technology, agribusiness and food processing industries.
The leaders discussed ways to encourage private-sector partnerships and explore new avenues for economic collaboration that could benefit both countries.
During the talks, Prime Minister Bektenov also sought Bangladesh's support for Kazakhstan's proposal to establish a specialized United Nations agency dedicated to water diplomacy and water resource management.
In response, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed Bangladesh's support for the initiative, recognizing the importance of international cooperation in addressing global water challenges.
The meeting reflected the shared commitment of both nations to expanding diplomatic engagement and exploring new opportunities for economic and strategic cooperation in the years ahead.
