Dhaka, Jun 07 (V7N) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said the government is working to build a work-oriented education system aimed at producing skilled human resources rather than merely issuing certificates.
He made the remarks while inaugurating the “Training of Teachers on Work-Oriented and Technical Education” programme at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital on Sunday morning.
The Prime Minister said there is currently no alternative to skill-based and technology-driven education to face the challenges of the global technological revolution.
“We are transforming the education system from primary to higher levels into a practical, work-oriented and technology-based structure,” he said.
He also said that the long-standing “fascist regime” not only deprived people of democratic rights but also disrupted the country’s education system, which now requires structural reform.
Highlighting the role of the National University in the education sector, Tarique Rahman said that in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, many traditional jobs are becoming obsolete while new employment opportunities are emerging.
He stressed that practical and skill-based education is essential to prepare the younger generation for these changes.
During the event, the Prime Minister also announced plans for “seed funding” to support young entrepreneurs emerging from government educational institutions.
He urged teachers to go beyond classroom instruction and position themselves as role models for students and drivers of social transformation.
The programme is part of a broader government initiative to modernize technical and vocational education across the country and align it with labor market demands.
