Tangail, May 27 (V7N)- Heavy traffic pressure combined with rain and multiple vehicle breakdowns has caused a severe 30-kilometre traffic jam on the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge highway, disrupting Eid homebound travel.

Since Tuesday night (May 26), traffic congestion has stretched from the Jamuna Bridge toll plaza to the Gharinda bypass in Sadar Upazila, leaving thousands of passengers stranded on the busy route.

Travelers reported extreme hardship, particularly affecting women, children, and elderly passengers who were stuck for hours in slow-moving or stationary traffic.

One passenger traveling from Mouchak to Pabna said the journey, which normally takes around an hour and a half, took more than five and a half hours due to gridlock near the highway junction.

Another traveler heading to Natore said he remained stuck for nearly nine hours without being able to cross Tangail, despite already starting his journey from Dhaka.

Several passengers also complained about overcrowding in buses and inflated fares, with some forced to travel in trucks due to lack of available seats.

“I had no place to sit or even stand. I had to pay triple fare just to continue the journey,” said one stranded passenger.

Syed Riaz Uddin acknowledged the congestion, saying that rain and increased traffic pressure caused temporary slowdowns but expressed hope that the situation would improve as the day progresses.

Authorities in Tangail also confirmed heavy vehicle pressure along the highway but said efforts were underway to normalize traffic flow.
