Chattogram, May 18 (V7N) — The government has taken an initiative to construct two police academies in the Salimpur jungle area of Chattogram, a region previously described by authorities as a hideout for criminal groups.

Officials said the area, once referred to as a “no-go zone” due to limited access for law enforcement agencies, came under full control following a large-scale joint forces operation involving around 4,000 personnel in March.

After the operation, authorities have begun planning multiple development projects in the area, including police training institutions and other government facilities such as a prison. The total area earmarked for development is approximately 3,100 acres.

Chattogram Police Superintendent Masud Alam said that during Police Week, the Home Minister announced a special development plan for Jungle Salimpur, including the establishment of two police academies.

He also raised concerns about rising crime in parts of the district, including Raozan, citing an increase in murders, illegal arms use, extortion, and kidnappings in the post–August 5, 2024 period. He said preparations are underway for a coordinated major operation involving the army, RAB, and intelligence agencies to curb criminal activity.

Regarding security during the upcoming cattle market season, the police superintendent said law enforcement will remain on high alert to prevent robbery and extortion along cattle transportation routes. Additional personnel from police lines may also be deployed if necessary to ensure public safety.
