Rome, July 28 (V7N)- Israeli and Lebanese officials are set to meet in Rome next week to discuss the implementation of a US-brokered agreement and work toward a broader peace and security deal between the two countries.
The US-led technical-level talks will be held from August 4 to 6, according to a US State Department official.
The meeting comes after the Israeli military announced that it had handed over control of the first pilot zone in southern Lebanon to the Lebanese Armed Forces. Shortly afterward, US President Donald Trump met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun.
A US State Department official said the discussions will focus on fully implementing the framework agreement announced in late June.
The agenda will include expanding the pilot zone, addressing remaining border disputes, and creating a pathway toward a comprehensive peace and security agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
The official described the framework as the "only path to lasting peace" and said that lessons from the first pilot zone would help establish additional zones gradually in the future.
