Dhaka, May 06 (V7N) — A fresh consignment of 10 types of vaccines, including measles-rubella and oral polio, has arrived in Bangladesh to address the ongoing shortage in the national immunization program.
Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain personally received the shipment at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 12:45 pm on Wednesday (May 6).
The emergency consignment has been brought in response to a recent rise in measles cases and increased demand due to ongoing vaccination campaigns. Officials said existing stockpiles had been significantly depleted as vaccines were redirected to support emergency immunization efforts.
Alongside measles-rubella and oral polio vaccines, the shipment also includes BCG, pentavalent, PCV, and typhoid vaccines, aimed at strengthening routine immunization coverage.
Speaking after receiving the vaccines, the Health Minister said that 1.5 million doses of measles vaccine have already arrived, expressing confidence that there will be no further shortage in the coming days.
He added that the government acted swiftly, securing the vaccines within 24 days, and announced that a total of 10.8 million doses of 10 different vaccines are expected to arrive in the country by May 10.
