Dhaka, Dec 16 (V7N) – Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Mancha and a prospective independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, has been admitted to Singapore General Hospital, according to medical sources.
The information was confirmed on Monday by Dr Abdul Ahad, a resident physician at the Neurosurgery Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital and member secretary of the National Health Alliance. He said Osman Hadi was taken to Singapore General Hospital at 6:50 pm Bangladesh time and was formally admitted there, where he is currently undergoing treatment.
Earlier on Monday afternoon, an air ambulance carrying Osman Hadi departed Dhaka for Singapore. The aircraft landed at Seletar Airport in Singapore at 5:50 pm Bangladesh time.
The shooting incident occurred on December 12 at around noon in the Box Culvert area of Bijoynagar in the capital while Osman Hadi was campaigning for the upcoming election.
Eyewitnesses said that after Friday prayers, two individuals arrived from the Motijheel side on a black motorcycle. The person riding pillion reportedly fired at Osman Hadi from close range, aiming at his head, before fleeing the scene at high speed.
So far, six people have been detained in connection with the attack, though the main suspect remains at large. The government has announced a reward of Tk 50 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the gunman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner for Crime and Operations Md Nazrul Islam said the prime suspect is still inside the country. He added that the passports of suspected attackers have been blocked as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident, while security measures have been heightened amid concerns over election-related violence.
