Dhaka, Aug 20 (V7N) – The Election Commission (EC) of Bangladesh has reinstated 85 former upazila and thana election officers nearly two decades after they were dismissed from service. A formal notification was issued on Monday, signed by Senior Secretary of the EC, Akhtar Ahmed.

According to the notice, the reinstated officers must submit their letters of joining either in person or via email to the office of the Senior Secretary of the Election Commission by Tuesday. Failure to do so within the stipulated timeframe will be considered a refusal to rejoin service.

The reinstatement follows prolonged appeals and legal proceedings initiated by the affected officers over the past 18 years. Their initial dismissal reportedly took place under administrative restructuring or disciplinary action, details of which have remained limited in public records.

The EC's decision has been widely welcomed among former officials and civil service circles, with many viewing it as a long-overdue resolution to an administrative issue that lingered for nearly two decades. The move is also seen as part of the EC’s broader efforts to address past anomalies and restore institutional integrity.

The reinstated officers are expected to undergo administrative briefings and reassignment procedures following the completion of their rejoining formalities.
