Ukhiya, Oct 26 (V7N) — The body of 14-year-old school student Shaheen Sarwar Farhad was recovered from Rezu Khal in the North Sonarpura area of Jaliapalong, Ukhiya, 17 hours after he went missing while fishing. Fire service divers retrieved the body early Sunday morning around 7:30 a.m.

News of Farhad’s death sent shockwaves through the community, leaving classmates, teachers, neighbors, relatives, and local residents deeply grief-stricken.

According to local sources, Farhad had gone fishing with his father in Rezu Khal on Saturday afternoon around 3 p.m. Using a rod for leisure, he accidentally fell into the water and went missing.

Station Officer Dolar Tripura of Ukhiya Fire Service and Civil Defence said that the team conducted an extensive search after receiving the report on Saturday afternoon but could not locate him. Later, a diving team was notified through the Chattogram Control Room. On Sunday morning, the divers spotted Farhad’s body floating and recovered it, handing it over to his family.

Officer Tripura urged residents, especially those who cannot swim, to avoid rivers, canals, and the sea to prevent such accidents. He added that the Ukhiya Fire Service and Civil Defence remain ready to assist the public in any emergency.

Farhad’s untimely death has cast a deep shadow of mourning over the entire Sonarpura area, with his family and relatives overwhelmed with grief.
