Madhabpur, Sept 6 (V7N) – A tragic incident occurred on Thursday evening in Madhabpur, Habiganj, where a 10-year-old boy, Sourav Debnath, died after being bitten by a venomous snake. The incident took place around 6:00 pm in Subidpur village of Bahra Union.
According to family sources, Sourav was playing near his home when the snake suddenly bit him. He was immediately taken to Madhabpur Upazila Health Complex for treatment. However, due to the attending doctor’s inability to accurately identify the bite as venomous, Sourav was referred to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital. He succumbed to the injury shortly after arriving at the hospital in the evening.
Sourav Debnath, son of Subhen Debnath, was a fourth-grade student at Subidpur Government Primary School. His sudden death has left his family and the local community in deep mourning.
Neighbor Samiran Debnath said, “My nephew was bitten by a snake while playing. Even after being taken to Madhabpur Hospital, the bite was not properly identified, and he was sent to Brahmanbaria. Unfortunately, he passed away shortly after treatment there.”
Acting Chairman of Bahra Union Parishad, Md. Mosharraf Hossain, confirmed the incident and stated, “The child died from a snake bite. His funeral was conducted on Friday.”
Madhabpur Upazila Health Officer Dr. Md. Imrul Hasan Jahangir explained, “Anti-venom vaccines are available at our health complex. However, administration depends on the patient’s condition. In this case, the attending doctor could not confirm the bite as venomous, so anti-venom was not administered, and the patient was referred to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital.”
Authorities have urged parents and local communities to take extra precautions to prevent snake bites, particularly among children playing outdoors during the monsoon season.
