New York, Sep 23 (V7N)- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused European countries of applying double standards in their response to the ongoing regional tensions, criticizing what he described as their silence over US and Israeli actions against Iran.
Araghchi made the remarks during a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom de Bruijn on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to Al Jazeera.
The Iranian foreign minister later shared details of the meeting on his Telegram channel on Wednesday.
During the discussion, Araghchi criticized the positions taken by European countries toward the current regional situation. He particularly objected to what he described as European silence and tacit support for US and Israeli military actions against Iran.
Araghchi argued that European governments cannot simultaneously emphasize the rule of law and protection of human rights while remaining indifferent to, or supporting, what Iran considers military aggression against the country.
His comments came amid continued tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel, with diplomatic efforts and disagreements over regional security remaining major issues at the UN General Assembly.
Dutch Foreign Minister Tom de Bruijn, meanwhile, stressed the importance of diplomacy in addressing the regional crisis.
De Bruijn also outlined the Netherlands' position on the current situation and discussed relations and ongoing communication between Iran and European countries.
The meeting took place as Iranian and European officials continued diplomatic engagements on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, where the conflict and wider regional security situation remain major topics of discussion.
