Pabna, Sept 20 (V7N) — Two children drowned in a pond in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna on Saturday afternoon, leaving their families and the local community in mourning.
The incident occurred in the Atlongka South Sengram area of Mulgram Union around 3pm.
The deceased were Huzaifa Rahman, 7, son of Mujibur Rahman, and Mahfuz, 6, son of Rubel Hossain. Both were residents of the same village.
According to relatives, the two neighbours and classmates went to bathe in a pond belonging to a local resident known as Janu Member. At one point, the children, who did not know how to swim, drowned.
When they did not return home for an extended period, their families began searching for them. About two hours later, the children were found floating in the pond and were quickly rescued.
They were taken to the nearby Atgharia Upazila Health Complex, where doctors on duty declared both children dead.
Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Oliur Rahman confirmed the deaths and urged parents and guardians to remain more vigilant about children's safety around water.
