Washington, Nov 04 (V7N)- US President Donald Trump has warned Iran of possible stern action if necessary, while expressing reluctance to see large numbers of people killed in the country following the US midterm elections.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday (November 3), Trump said Washington was prepared to take decisive action if the situation demanded it.
"I don't want to see a lot of people killed in Iran after the midterm elections. But I am issuing a warning—if it has to be done, then it will be done," Trump said.
The US President also revealed that American forces had carried out a limited strike on a newly constructed Iranian anti-aircraft facility following more than two months of surveillance. Describing the operation as minor, he insisted that it did not amount to a full-scale war.
Trump said the confrontation with Iran was fundamentally different from conventional conflicts, including the Russia-Ukraine war and World War II.
He further claimed that Washington had established overwhelming control over Iran after neutralising the country's naval and air capabilities.
"We have them completely in our grip," Trump said, adding that the United States had the capability to destroy Iran's remaining military strength but could also choose to spare thousands of lives.
His remarks signal a continued US hardline stance towards Tehran, while leaving open the possibility of further military action depending on developments in the region.
