New York, Sep 22 (V7N)- Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus has called for greater integration of social business, youth innovation and modern technology to build a more sustainable and inclusive world.
He made the remarks as the keynote speaker at a high-level side event titled “Social Business, Youth and Technology” at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Monday. The event brought together leaders, social entrepreneurs, innovators and young people to discuss ways to advance sustainable development.
The event was held under the theme of social business, youth leadership and technology and was attended by UN General Assembly President Dr. Khalilur Rahman, among other prominent figures.
Yunus highlighted the potential of social business to address major challenges facing societies. He argued that business can serve purposes beyond generating profit by developing solutions to social and environmental problems.
He also emphasized the importance of investing in people's capabilities and expanding opportunities through microcredit, social business and youth entrepreneurship.
In his remarks, Yunus promoted the vision of a “World of Three Zeros”—zero net carbon emissions, zero wealth concentration for ending poverty and zero unemployment through entrepreneurship. The UN General Assembly president also referred to the 3 ZERO Movement and its youth-focused initiatives in his speech.
General Assembly President Khalilur Rahman said young people should move from participation to leadership by helping design policies, build enterprises and implement solutions. He also stressed that artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies require inclusive and human-centred governance.
Rahman said responsibly governed and equitably shared artificial intelligence could contribute to areas including climate action, healthcare, education and financial inclusion, while warning of ethical and other risks associated with poorly governed AI.
The event also highlighted the importance of cooperation among governments, young people, civil society, social entrepreneurs and businesses in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and addressing global challenges.
