New Delhi, Aug 31 (V7N)- At least 275 Indian nationals remain missing following the devastating floods and flash floods in Nepal, while another 128 people of Indian origin are also unaccounted for, according to India's Ministry of External Affairs.
British media outlet BBC News reported the information on Monday.
New Delhi has intensified efforts to rescue Indian nationals stranded in Nepal following the disaster. Alongside search and rescue operations, authorities are placing particular emphasis on forensic procedures to identify those who remain missing.
According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, 403 Indian nationals had entered Nepal from China, and many of them are still missing. Meanwhile, around 500 Indian nationals are reported to be safe in China. So far, 149 Indians have been rescued.
India has also dispatched a 19-member specialized forensic team to Nepal to assist with the search and identification operations. The team has already begun working in Kathmandu.
As part of the effort to identify victims, DNA samples are being collected and analyzed to establish the identities of recovered bodies.
The forensic operation has become particularly important as rescue teams face significant challenges in reaching remote areas and dealing with disrupted communication networks caused by the floods and landslides.
