Kathmandu, Aug 29 (V7N)- The death toll from the devastating flash floods and landslides in Nepal has risen to at least 626, while nearly 2,500 people remain missing, the BBC reported on Saturday (August 29).
Authorities fear the death toll could rise further as search and rescue operations continue across several affected areas.
Rescue teams have intensified their efforts, searching through debris and remote mountainous regions for people who remain unaccounted for.
Nepal has been experiencing severe flooding and landslides following days of heavy rain. Torrents of water, mud, rocks and debris have swept through large areas, causing extensive damage to homes and other structures.
Communication infrastructure has also been severely damaged, particularly in mountainous areas along the Nepal-China border.
The difficult terrain and damage to roads and other infrastructure are making it challenging for rescuers to reach some of the worst-hit areas.
Authorities are continuing emergency operations while assessing the full extent of the devastation caused by the floods and landslides.
