Washington, July 07 (V7N) — U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized Elon Musk’s announcement of a new political party, calling the idea of a third party “ridiculous” and warning that it would only create confusion in America’s long-standing two-party system.

Speaking to reporters before boarding Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said, “American politics has always been a two-party system, and a third party would only add to the confusion.”

Musk, who had hinted at political ambitions for weeks, formally revealed on Twitter that he had founded the America Party. According to Musk, the new party aims to challenge what he described as the “unified party” of Republicans and Democrats, positioning itself as an alternative to what he sees as entrenched political interests.

The Tesla CEO noted that while the party may back a presidential candidate in the future, its immediate focus is to gain influence in the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate over the next 12 months.

Once considered an ally of Trump, Musk previously led the government’s efficiency department, which sought to reduce federal spending. In recent months, Musk has become increasingly vocal in his criticism of government policies contributing to the rising national debt.

Trump also took to his Truth Social platform on Sunday, expressing disappointment in Musk’s political pivot. “I am saddened to see Elon Musk completely ‘lost his way’ over the past five weeks,” Trump wrote.

The emergence of the America Party signals potential turbulence in U.S. politics as the 2026 midterms approach, raising questions about its impact on the traditional Republican-Democrat dynamic.
