Damascus, July 04 (V7N) – Syria has introduced a new national emblem following the fall of the former government led by Bashar al-Assad. The emblem reflects Islamic traditions, heroic history, and prominently declares the Syrian people as “free and independent.”

The new emblem was officially unveiled by Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara during a grand ceremony in the capital, Damascus, attended by thousands of citizens.

The redesigned emblem features a golden eagle, a historic symbol of strength and victory in Islamic culture. The eagle was notably used by the famed Muslim commander Khalid ibn Walid during his conquest of the Mediterranean region.

President al-Shara emphasized the emblem’s message of national unity, saying, “Our new identity shows that Syria does not accept any division. From east to west, north to south, we are united everywhere. Our cultural and ethnic diversity is not a symbol of division but a source of prosperity.”

The emblem incorporates significant symbolic elements:

  • The three stars, previously displayed on a shield on the eagle’s chest, are now positioned on the bird’s head, representing the freedom and independence of the Syrian people.

  • The 14 feathers on the eagle’s wings symbolize the country’s 14 provinces.

  • The five tail feathers represent Syria’s five main regions: North, East, West, South, and Center.

Many Syrians at the unveiling expressed positive feelings about the new emblem. One participant said the former emblem had been associated with Assad’s regime and its oppressive rule, while the new symbol evokes pride, honor, and the spirit of victory.

The Syrian administration announced that national identity cards and passports will soon be updated to feature the new emblem design.
