Dhaka, Aug 10 (V7N) – The Haroon-Shakil panel, affiliated with the pro-BNP doctors’ platform, has secured a sweeping victory in the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) election, winning all positions in a full-panel triumph.
The election was held peacefully on Saturday at Wills Little Flower School and College in the capital. Voting began in the morning and continued until 8 PM. The results were officially announced after midnight. Out of 3,117 registered voters, 2,600 cast their ballots.
Professor Dr. Haroon Al Rashid was elected president, receiving 1,369 votes. His closest competitor, Professor Dr. AKM Azizul Haque, received 1,202 votes.
Dr. Abul Kenan was elected senior vice-president with 1,330 votes, defeating Dr. Saif Uddin Siddique Ahmed Tuhin, who received 1,233 votes.
In the position of Secretary General, Dr. Zahirul Islam Shakil won by a large margin, securing 1,458 votes against his nearest rival Dr. Abdus Shakur Khan, who obtained 1,079 votes.
Dr. Mehdi Hasan was elected treasurer with 1,312 votes, while his closest contender Dr. Tofid ul Islam received 1,259 votes.
Dr. AKM Khalekuzzaman Lipu won the position of Senior Joint Secretary General with 1,316 votes, defeating Dr. Abu Muhammad Ahsan Firoz, who garnered 1,249 votes.
Following the announcement of the results, a celebratory atmosphere prevailed among the winning candidates and their supporters. The election was marked by orderly conduct and a peaceful environment throughout the day.
