Dhaka, Sep 13 (V7N)- Bangladeshi triathlete Sazia Sultana Happy has achieved a new milestone in the country’s sporting history by successfully completing the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Nice, France.
Competing in the women’s 40–44 age group, Sazia crossed the finish line in 7 hours, 51 minutes and 7 seconds. Wearing bib number 511, she finished 354th among 364 competitors in her age group.
Among all female competitors, she ranked 1,703rd out of 2,725 participants.
Ironman 70.3 is a half-distance triathlon consisting of a 1.9-kilometer swim, a 90-kilometer cycling segment and a 21.1-kilometer run. Athletes must complete approximately 113 kilometers across the three disciplines.
Balancing her professional career and responsibilities as a mother of two, Sazia underwent extensive preparation for the demanding competition. Her qualification for the World Championship came through a long period of consistent training, physical conditioning and dedicated preparation.
Completing the full course alongside experienced triathletes from around the world represents a significant achievement in Sazia’s sporting journey.
Although her position in the age-group standings was relatively low, successfully completing one of the world’s most prestigious triathlon events marks an important achievement for Bangladesh.
Sazia’s accomplishment goes beyond finishing a race. Her participation demonstrates Bangladesh’s growing presence in international triathlon and shows how determination, confidence and long-term preparation can help athletes take on demanding challenges while balancing professional and family responsibilities.
Her successful participation in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship could also open new possibilities for the development of triathlon in Bangladesh and inspire more athletes from the country to compete on the international stage.
