Tehran, Jun 10 (V7N) – Iran has warned of a strong response following a U.S. military strike targeting Iranian facilities near the Strait of Hormuz, escalating tensions between the two longtime rivals.

The warning came from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who reacted sharply after the United States launched what it described as a defensive military operation on Tuesday.

In a post on the social media platform X, Araghchi accused Washington of attempting to test Iran’s resolve after what he described as failures on the battlefield.

“The United States has tried to test our determination after failing on the battlefield,” he wrote. “Our powerful armed forces will not leave any attack or threat unanswered.”

He also issued a direct warning, saying, “If you want to be safe, leave our territory.”

According to U.S. officials, the operation was carried out under the orders of President Donald Trump following the reported downing of a U.S. Army Apache helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz. The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strike was a defensive measure aimed at protecting American forces and interests in the region.

Sources familiar with the operation said the first wave of attacks targeted Iranian air defense systems and radar installations located around the strategically important waterway.

CENTCOM described the operation as a response to what it called Iran’s “unreasonable aggression,” emphasizing that the strikes were limited and focused on military infrastructure linked to the helicopter incident.

The latest exchange has raised concerns about a broader escalation in the Gulf region, where the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most vital energy transit routes. Any prolonged conflict could have significant implications for global oil supplies and regional stability.

Despite the military confrontation, U.S. officials have indicated that diplomatic channels remain open and that efforts to prevent a wider conflict are continuing.

Analysts warn that Iran’s latest threat of retaliation could further heighten tensions at a time when both sides are already engaged in a dangerous cycle of military and political confrontation.
