Rajshahi, Aug 05 (V7N) — Authorities, political leaders, families of those killed and members of the public observed July Mass Uprising Day 2026 in Rajshahi on Wednesday with wreath-laying ceremonies, prayers and commemorative events honouring those who lost their lives during the July movement.

The day's observance began at 9:00 a.m. with the laying of floral wreaths at the July Martyrs' Memorial at C&B More in Rajshahi city.

Among those paying tribute were Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, MP; Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton; Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr. A.N.M. Bazlur Rashid; Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner Kazi Shahidul Islam; Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Faizul Kabir; Rajshahi Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Md. Ashik Saeed; Rajshahi Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Ershad Ali Esha; and family members of martyr Sakib Anjum, along with participants associated with the July movement.

Following the wreath-laying ceremony, special prayers were offered for the deceased, the recovery and well-being of those injured during the movement, and for peace, prosperity and continued development of the country.

Speaking at the event, Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu said the government remained committed to supporting the families of those who lost their lives as well as those injured during the July Mass Uprising.

He said the government was working on long-term rehabilitation programmes, including financial security initiatives for affected families, while reaffirming its commitment to preserving the values of sacrifice, justice and equality associated with the movement.

"The aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives for a prosperous and discrimination-free Bangladesh continue to guide the government's efforts toward building a better future," he said.

Moinul Haque, father of martyr Sakib Anjum, called for justice over his son's death and urged authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Rajshahi City Corporation Administrator Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Riton said the government continued to stand beside the families of those killed and injured during the July movement and remained committed to their welfare.

Throughout the morning, representatives from government agencies, private organisations, educational institutions and members of the public visited the memorial to lay wreaths and pay their respects to those who lost their lives during the July Mass Uprising.
