Islamabad, Apr 21 (V7N) — The second round of peace talks between the United States and Iran remains uncertain, with just one day left before the ceasefire deadline expires.
Deadlock over participation
Washington has stated that its negotiators will travel to Islamabad only if Tehran formally confirms its participation. However, Iranian officials say no final decision has yet been made.
A senior Iranian official told Reuters that Tehran is still weighing its options, while Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi cited ongoing ceasefire violations by the US as a major obstacle to advancing diplomacy.
During a phone call with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Araghchi said Iran is considering all aspects before deciding its next move.
Iran rejects talks “under pressure”
Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused US President Donald Trump of increasing pressure through sanctions and alleged ceasefire violations.
Ghalibaf said Iran would not agree to negotiations under threats or coercion.
Confusion over US delegation
Reports that US Vice President JD Vance had already departed for Pakistan were later denied. Sources confirmed he remained in the United States as of Monday.
Pakistan prepares amid uncertainty
Despite the uncertainty, Pakistan is continuing preparations to host the talks. Authorities have deployed around 20,000 security personnel across Islamabad to ensure safety in case the مذاکرات proceed.
With both sides holding firm positions, the fate of the talks — and the fragile ceasefire — remains unclear.
