Tehran, Apr 17 (V7N) – Iranian cleric Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami has urged the public not to trust the United States, warning that Washington seeks to achieve through negotiations what it could not accomplish on the battlefield.
Delivering a Friday sermon in Tehran, Khatami said that no country would dare to attack Iran, adding that even if such an attempt were made, it would have no significant impact. He also reaffirmed that the ideals of the Islamic Revolution would endure.
Criticizing US leadership, Khatami alleged that Donald Trump is “accustomed to lying,” claiming that the American president frequently makes misleading statements. He called for extreme caution and skepticism in dealing with such leadership.
Referring to recent diplomatic efforts, Khatami praised Iranian negotiators for their stance during Pakistan-mediated talks in Islamabad. He said Iranian representatives walked out of discussions when the US raised additional demands, describing the move as a firm defense of national interests.
“Washington wants to gain at the negotiating table what it failed to achieve in war,” he said.
Reiterating Iran’s defensive posture, Khatami stated, “No one will dare to attack Iran. And even if an attack occurs, it will have no effect.”
He also cited the stance of Ali Khamenei, warning that even friendly gestures from adversaries should not be trusted, especially in the case of US leadership.
Tensions between Iran and its adversaries escalated following a major military confrontation earlier this year. After weeks of hostilities, a two-week ceasefire brokered by Pakistan came into effect on April 8, leading to talks in Islamabad. However, negotiations ended without agreement after prolonged discussions.
Khatami concluded by asserting that the Iranian people would not accept any agreement under humiliating conditions, emphasizing national dignity and sovereignty.
