Chicago, Oct 5 (V7N) – Tensions erupted Saturday night between federal immigration agents and protesters in Chicago, culminating in Border Patrol officers shooting a woman. The incident occurred in the city’s Brighton Park area as Part of escalating confrontations over heightened ICE activity.
According to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) statement, no law enforcement personnel sustained serious injuries during the altercation. The agency said a group of protesters — including the unidentified woman — rammed their vehicle into a vehicle used by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
DHS noted that the woman, who is a U.S. citizen, drove herself to a hospital after she was shot. Her condition has not been immediately disclosed.
During the confrontation, ICE agents responded with pepper spray and rubber bullets to push back demonstrators.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced that special operations forces would be deployed to regain control in the affected area.
Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker publicly rejected calls by the Trump administration to deploy the National Guard in response to the unrest, describing such a threat as “outrageous and un-American.”
The action comes amid a wave of protests in Chicago against intensified federal immigration enforcement under “Operation Midway Blitz,” with demonstrators criticizing what they perceive as overreach and excessive use of force.
