Dhaka, Oct 5 (V7N) – Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has stated that the government is closely monitoring the safety and well-being of participants in the historic Gaza-bound flotilla, including internationally renowned photographer and human rights activist Shahidul Alam.
In a statement issued Saturday, Professor Yunus highlighted Shahidul Alam’s unwavering courage and resilience, recalling his 107-day imprisonment in 2018 during the Hasina administration for speaking out against injustice. “Shahidul Alam is participating in this mission with the same spirit and determination, serving as a shining symbol of Bangladesh’s steadfast resolve,” he said.
Referencing his speech at the United Nations General Assembly last month, Professor Yunus noted, “Indifference to the suffering and oppression of others is eroding decades of progress we have collectively achieved.”
He further described the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as “the most tragic manifestation,” citing the plight of children dying of hunger, indiscriminate killings of civilians, and the destruction of hospitals, schools, and entire communities.
Professor Yunus concluded by expressing solidarity, stating, “We stand with Shahidul Alam, we stand with Gaza—now and forever.”
The government has reportedly intensified monitoring and communication channels with the flotilla organizers to ensure the participants’ security and to respond swiftly to any emergencies during the mission.
