Rangamati, Sept 14 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s Central Assistant Secretary General Maulana Md. Shahjahan has called for ensuring the legal basis of the “July Charter” before the next national election. Speaking as the chief guest at the Rangamati District Jamaat’s Rukon Conference on Saturday, Shahjahan reiterated the party’s commitment to contest in all constituencies but demanded that elections must be held under a proportional representation (PR) system.

“We want elections, and for that reason, we have already finalized candidates for all constituencies. But the elections must be held under the PR system, and before that, the July Charter must be legally recognized,” Shahjahan said.

The conference, held at the local Jamaat office, was presided over by Rangamati District Ameer Professor Abdul Alim. Special guests included Jamaat Central Working Committee Member Professor Ahsan Ullah, Central Majlis-e-Shura Member Md. Jafar Sadeq, and Advocate Mokhter Ahmad, Jamaat’s nominated candidate for Rangamati-299 constituency.

The event was conducted by District Secretary Monsurul Haque, with the presence of district Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulana Md. Jahangir Alam, Assistant Secretary Abul Barakat, District Working Committee Members Maulana Nurul Alam Siddiqi, Md. Nurul Karim, Md. Abdus Salam, and all local Thana Ameers from the hill district.

Addressing the gathering, Shahjahan stressed that Jamaat is ready to participate in the polls at any time, provided a level playing field and equal opportunities are ensured for all political parties. He urged the authorities to arrange elections swiftly under fair conditions.

During the conference, Maulana Forkan Ahmed, father of newly elected Dhaka University G.S. S.M. Farhad, attended and distributed sweets among the members, seeking prayers for his son.
