Savar, Sep 12 (V7N) – Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Islami Chhatra Shibir President Zahidul Islam have expressed deep sorrow over the sudden death of Jannatul Ferdous Moumita, an assistant professor of Jahangirnagar University’s Fine Arts Department, who died during the JUCSU vote-counting process.
In separate Facebook posts on their verified accounts on Friday (Sept 12), both leaders conveyed condolences to the bereaved family.
The Jamaat Amir wrote:
“I pray for the forgiveness of her soul and express my deepest condolences to the bereaved family. May Allah Almighty forgive her and accept her as a guest of Paradise. May Allah grant her family, colleagues, loved ones, and friends patience.”
The Chhatra Shibir President similarly prayed:
“May Allah Almighty forgive her. May she be granted Paradise. May her family, colleagues, and students all have patience.”
The deceased teacher had been serving as the polling officer of Pritilata Hall in the JUCSU elections. She collapsed in front of the polling station door on Thursday morning (Sept 11) while attending the vote-counting session. She was immediately taken to Enam Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The JUCSU and Hall Sangsad elections began at 9 am on Thursday, with vote counting starting five hours later. Results are being displayed on LED screens, while ballots are being counted manually in the traditional way.
A total of 11,759 students were eligible to vote in the election, with 177 candidates contesting for 25 central posts. Of these, nine are competing for the Vice President (VP) post, eight for the General Secretary (GS) post, and six women and ten men for the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) post.
