Faridpur, Bagerhat, Pabna, Sept 14 (V7N) – Residents and political activists in Faridpur, Bagerhat, and Pabna have launched fresh protest programs demanding the restoration of parliamentary constituencies following recent reorganization decisions.

In Faridpur’s Bhanga Upazila, the protest will continue from Sunday through Wednesday, with roads and railway lines blocked daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The local agitation erupted after Algi and Hamirdi unions of Bhanga were merged with Faridpur-2 constituency instead of remaining under Faridpur-4. Residents have expressed strong resentment and have been demanding the reinstatement of the two unions to Faridpur-4. Yesterday evening, even without a formal program, BNP leaders and activists staged a protest march in Bhanga town.

During a press conference at Algi Union Parishad, protest coordinator and Algi Union Chairman M. M. Siddiq Mia stated that road and railway blockades will resume on Sunday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and continue daily until Wednesday. Key points of blockade include Hamirdi Bus Stand, Pukhuria Bus Stand, Pukhuria Railway Crossing, Madhabpur Bus Stand, the Upazila Health Complex gate, and sections of the Dhaka-Mawa-Bhanga Expressway and Dhaka-Khulna Highway.

In Bagerhat, a new four-day program organized by the All-Party Joint Committee to demand the maintenance of four parliamentary seats begins today. District and upazila-level offices and courts will see sit-ins on Sunday, followed by continuous strikes from Monday to Wednesday, running daily from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. M. A. Salam, co-convener of the committee and former district BNP president, announced the program during an emergency meeting at the district administration office last Thursday. The committee has previously staged week-long strikes, blockades, and protest marches.

In Pabna’s Bera Upazila, activists announced a full-day hartal and blockade of roads and waterways on Sunday to demand the restoration of Pabna-1 constituency (Bera partial–Santhia). The All-Party Struggle Committee declared that if their demand is not met, they will escalate actions to completely halt all traffic through Bera Upazila.

The protests across these districts reflect growing discontent over the Election Commission’s constituency reorganization, with participants emphasizing the need for immediate action to restore electoral fairness.
