Dhaka, August 5 (V7N) - Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, is scheduled to read the "July Declaration" on Tuesday, August 5, at the South Plaza of the National Parliament in Dhaka. The event, a significant political moment for the country, will be broadcast live by Bangladesh Television.

A five-member delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by the party’s Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will attend the declaration ceremony. Other members of the delegation include BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, and Salahuddin Ahmed.

The BNP’s participation was confirmed late Monday night by Shayrul Kabir Khan, a member of the party’s media cell. The decision was made during a meeting of the BNP’s Standing Committee at the party’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.

Earlier on Monday, cultural affairs adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki, associated with the event’s organizing committee, stated that invitations had been extended to all parties involved in the July Uprising movement, including the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami, and the Nationalist Citizens' Platform (NCP). Farooki noted that while the invitations were sent to parties collectively, it was up to each party to decide their representatives.

However, confusion arose when Salahuddin Ahmed, a BNP Standing Committee member, told reporters at a press conference at his residence in Gulshan that his party had not yet received any official invitation. He suggested that the absence of a direct invitation could be an oversight or the result of miscommunication.

When approached for clarification, Farooki reiterated that the BNP had been invited at the organizational level and that the leadership was responsible for selecting attendees. He added that the government had maintained communication with major political parties in organizing the declaration event and had sought their input throughout the planning process.

The reading of the July Declaration is seen as a symbolic and potentially unifying act, amid growing calls for democratic reforms. Professor Yunus’s role as the interim government's chief adviser has drawn attention from both domestic and international observers.

The declaration ceremony comes at a critical time in Bangladesh’s political landscape, as parties across the spectrum navigate shifting alliances, popular discontent, and mounting pressure for electoral reforms.

Bangladesh Television will air the event live at 5:00 PM local time on Tuesday.
